What is a periodontist?
A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the supporting structures of the teeth, i.e. the gums and bone. After obtaining a dental degree, periodontists undergo three additional years of specialty training. Periodontists specialize in diagnosis of periodontal conditions, and surgical therapy, including the placement of dental implants, aesthetic recontouring of the gums, and the management of gum disease.
We work closely as a team with your referring dentist, but a referral by a dentist is not required to become a new patient. We welcome referrals from patients and friends of the practice. If you are in need of a general or restorative dentist, we can provide you with the names of some of the excellent dentists we work with.
We are extraordinarily proud of our team, which consists of caring and dedicated professionals. We communicate with you and your dentist, ensuring that your clinical, periodontal, and administrative needs are met as efficiently and smoothly as possible.
Our goal is to make you feel comfortable and relaxed. We are here to listen to you and to help provide solutions leading to your better health. Periodontal treatment is a partnership between your periodontist, your dentist, any other treatment providers, and you.
Your initial appointment will consist of an evaluation and explanation of your specific concerns. We strive to give you as much information as we can, so you can make an informed decision about your treatment.
Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:
- Your referral slip and any x-rays, if applicable;
- A list of medications you are presently taking;
- If you have medical or dental insurance, bring your cards with you.
If you have any questions or concerns before visiting our office, feel free to give us a call at (510) 522-3545. We look forward to meeting you!
